I’d like to share this poem written by Annie Johnson Flint, “He Giveth More Grace”.
He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added affliction…He addeth His mercy;
To multiplied trials…His multiplied peace.
When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources,
Our Father’s full giving… is only begun.
Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever earns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting…availing;
The Father will thee and thy load upbear.
His love has no limit; His grace has no measure.
His pow’r has no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth and giveth…and giveth again.
I pray that this poem will bring comfort to whoever reads it. It does for me. To me it speaks of an individual’s faith in and reliance on, Yahweh’s provision for us and how that trust and reliance has worked for them.
She (Annie) examples that troubles and trials exist and that their existence in our lives is not necessarily because our walk with our God is a weak one. The point is that peace and joy are possible through these things even when we are in the midst of them.
My thought and maybe yours as well, is that the troubles and pains we experience are a result, the natural outcome, of the wedge driven between God and His created ones through our original disobedience, and is perpetuated through our inclination to continue to do so. There is nothing we can do to prevent their continued existence and the Scriptures give us a clue that that is so in Luke 4:13 CJB,
“When the Adversary had ended all his testings, he let Him alone until an opportune time.”
Troubles…circumstances we find ourselves weak in dealing with...loss, injustice, broken hearts, betrayal, rejections, failure, inadequacy, depression, hopelessness, fearfulness, fatigue, illness, physical diminishing, lack of control and more… all these are here for the duration.
The Evil One uses those circumstances and consequences… and our weakness in the face of them… to maintain that split, make it larger and ultimately destroy us.
Yahweh uses them and our weakness as a means of giving us the strength we need… from His strength, bring us close and give us life...eternal life. Glory be to Him.
Annie speaks of faith and trust through trial just as Paul, who after Yahweh had told him, “…My grace is enough for you, for My power is brought to perfection in weakness.” said, “…Therefore, I am very happy to boast about my weaknesses, in order that the Messiah’s power will rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 CJB.
Through circumstances and pains God molds us into a person, a people… not who minimize the hardship or hurt of those circumstances… but who can engage and endure with confidence, trusting all is for good and Goodness is coming.
Love, care, mourn, take heart my friend…”Let not your heart be troubled.” John 14:1 AKJV. Believe in Yeshua. Believe in God.
Father, mold us, our hearts and minds to be so trusting and reliant on You that we would be calm and steady in the hard testings of life.
May such trusting and reliance on you enable us to have a spirit of underlying peace and joy.
Thank You Father for the grace in burdens, the strength in labor, mercy in affliction and peace in trial…for Your provision, you everlastingly available arm on which to lean, for Your bearing us up and our loads as well.
You are so good Abba Dear Father.
In Yeshua’s name we pray,
May God’s love be in us all.
