There Is A Scripture 07-13-18

I remember when my wife and I first slipped rings onto each other’s fingers.

We were young and back then as yet unaffected by the influences of life that actually change us physically and if I wasn’t careful the ring could slide off my finger.

As the years have gone by though it has been increasingly more and more difficult to remove it and if Jehovah, Abba blesses with years it will become impossible.

It’s a good analogy for young ones starting out.

We are passionate and strong, full of expectations, hopes, dreams and preconceived ideas. Thoughtfulness and wisdom, patience and forgiveness have yet to be learned and practiced. Placing the other one first before ourselves is hard to do in all we do, not just on special occasions.

And the world doesn’t help. It distracts. It sympathizes. It doesn’t deem it so wrong to give hurt for hurt or seek satisfaction in some other pursuit, place or person. It even makes it seem right, healthy, acceptable to dabble there.

But that can lead to:

“…the wicked strut about everywhere

when vileness is held in general esteem.”

Psalm 21:9(8)

Time and life provide all the situations and opportunities to confront and deal with all that can be good in a marriage and what can be bad, what can build and what can destroy. There will be no escaping it. We will have to deal. We will deal, one way or the other… young person.

Mistakes are made. We make them. Others make them. But even in mistakes and failures there can be forgiveness, redemption, happiness and peace.

The question is… young one… if you find yourself at the cross roads and are looking first down this one and then down that, which way will you go?

Are you at the cross roads because you have allowed yourself to consider other options?

Have you forgotten the love you had at first?

Young man:

“Drink the water from your own cistern,

fresh water from your own well…

Let your fountain, the wife of your youth,

be blessed; find joy in her—

a lovely deer, a graceful fawn;

let her breasts satisfy you at all times,

always be infatuated with her love.” Proverbs 5:15-19 CJB

Don’t be lead,

“…like an ox on its way to be slaughtered;

Like a fool to be punished in the stocks;

Or like a bird rushing into a trap,

Not knowing its life is at stake

till an arrow pierces its liver.” Proverbs 21-23 CJB

Young woman:

“Like an apple tree among the other trees in the forest

is my darling among the other men.

I love to sit in his shadow;

his fruit is sweet to my taste.” Song of Solomon 2:3 CJB

“I belong to the man I love, and he belongs to me;

he pastures his flock among the lilies.” Song of Solomon 6:3 CJB

Remember where you were, who you were with and your love before you got to that fork in the road. Know where the other is and how they are, always.

Return your focus to each other, go back home, make one another know they are loved. Take possession of it, fight for it, protect it. Be honest and open and vulnerable.

In time, with perseverance, the one we wear will no more be able to be removed from us than the ring on our finger swollen from the battles of life.

God, tender our hearts towards each other.

Enable us to keep our focus on the one we are in covenant with.

May anything or anyone else not be an option or occupy a place of prominence over them.

May we find love and belonging and intimacy and oneness in them alone.

Father, in spite of our frailty may our goals and efforts be high.

Protect and guide us young and old.

Where we are weak Abba, make us strong.

In Yeshua’s name we pray,

May God’s love be in us all.
