Yahweh, Abba, plant in us the seed of love for our children.
May it be a love that drives us to You for the guidance to bring them up rightly, to correctly teach them and be an example of obediently living according to Your ways.
May we not be blind, in our love for them and the favor which we have towards them over all others… be blind to the inclinations they, like we, have towards foolishness, towards wrong doing and neglect schooling them in their youth, so that they will know what right, wise behavior is and what wrong, foolish behavior is.
May we not neglect to be disciplined in disciplining and punishing when these are the rightful rewards for errancy on their part. But may the necessary discipline we impose, that they need to experience, be determined in a balance that includes mercy and forgiveness and instruction in what is right.
May we not be overbearing or condemning, only bringing up their shortcomings and prophesying future failure. May we not by doing so create in them a hopelessness of ever doing well of ever being pleasing.
May we focus also on their good and be quick to recognize it and express our approval and pride in them.
May our children realize, even in a painful moment, that they are loved and cared for, that discipline and punishment work for their good and that that is the desire of their father’s and a mother’s heart for them.
Father…school us and enable us to be towards our children as You are towards us.
And may we know and accept Your discipline. May we desire to learn and apply what You are teaching so that we can indeed be a delight to You.
Thank You Father, Abba Dear Father for caring for us so.
In Yeshua’s name we pray,
