Minchah Prayer 08-22-18

Our Saviour gave this Torah to Solomon.

“Don’t withhold good from someone entitled to it

when you have in hand the power to do it.

Don’t tell your neighbor, ‘Go away! Come another time;

I’ll give it to you tomorrow,’ when you have it now.” Proverbs 3:27-27

One Sabbath Day the Author of Torah was in the synagogue teaching and a woman approached.

“…she was bent double and unable to stand erect at all….He put His hands on her, and at once she stood upright and began to glorify God.” Luke 13:11,13 CJB.

Of course it was Shabbat and the letter of the law according to man’s interpretation dictated that this “work” should not have been done.

“…the president of the synagogue, indignant that Yeshua had healed on Shabbat, spoke up and said to the congregation, ‘There are six days in the week for working; so come during those days to be healed, not on Shabbat!’”

The Teacher responded.

“You hypocrites! Each one of you on Shabbat—don’t you unloose your ox or your donkey from the stall and lead him off to drink? This woman is a daughter of Avraham, and the Adversary kept her tied up for eighteen years! Shouldn’t she be freed from this bondage on Shabbat?” Luke 13:15-16 CJB.

He had the power to do good and did not withhold it.

He did not tell her to go away and come again another day.

He was obedient to Torah.

He went beyond the letter to the Spirit.

“…what is permitted on Shabbat is to do good.” Matthew 12:12 CJB

“…love your neighbor as yourself.” Leviticus 19:18 CJB.

Torah is not done away with. We have flexibility, guided by the Ruach, the Spirit of God. Yeshua set the example.

Father, it is our prayer that we read and hear and practice Your commands and instructions, not to willfully accomplish the letter, absent the heart, but to do so out of love for You and for our fellow man.

Create in us a heart capable of this kind of loving obedience we pray to You.

Holy Spirit, that we would listen and obey when You speak to us and correctly direct us.

Father, may we like You not withhold good when we have in hand the power to do it, may we not put off till another time what we can do now.

May You be glorified in all we do, Abba, Father.

In Yeshua’s name we pray,
